The strategy of Genesis Capital Partners is to generate long term sustainable returns for its shareholders from the investment into and the management of selected equity opportunities, either as a majority owner or alternatively as a significant minority shareholder.

Genesis Capital Partners does not have a fixed exit horizon like a typical private equity fund and is therefore in a position to make decisions that will maximize growth in the long term. In partnership with his father Selwyn, Martin founded the Genesis group in 1995. As CEO of the Genesis group, Martin has been successful in building the group into a leading niche financial services business that employs in excess of 150 people and that incorporates the leading independent financial planning group in South Africa.

Darren served articles at Fisher Hoffman Sithole from January 1994 to December 1996 and qualified as a chartered accountant in December 1996. He spent 17 months in the corporate finance department of N M Rothschild & Sons (South Africa), focusing on international merger and acquisition transactions.

Darren joined Peregrine in May 1998 where he was a director of Peregrine Investment Banking and focused on the group's private equity portfolio. Darren has been responsible for a number of highly successful private equity and venture capital transactions as well as new listings. Darren partnered with the Genesis Group in August 2006 to form Genesis Capital Partners.

David joined GCP in 2014 having been a partner at Genesis group company, Capitau Investment Advisory, a leading South African based independent M&A and investment house specializing in fund management, local and international finance and large, complex leveraged buy outs. David has over 17 years of experience in property transactions, financial modelling, structured and leveraged finance and structural unwinds.

Previously, David was co-head and divisional director of Brait Structured Finance before moving with his team to Grindrod Bank (then Marriott Merchant Bank) in 2003.While at Grindrod Bank, David was the Regional Head for Gauteng with specific responsibility for strategy and special projects. Having headed up the corporate finance and investment product teams, he was responsible for the operations of the Grindrod Investments Trust, a R2 billion preference share fund. David was also involved in the restructuring of the Bank’s asset management division, was responsible for the creation of the first of the Bank’s collective investment schemes and the formation of its distribution platform.

David has a Bachelor of Accounting Science from the University of South Africa; Higher Diploma in Tax Law from the University of Johannesburg and is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Jeff served articles with Deloitte from 1976 to 1980 while completing a part time BAcc at the University of the Witwatersrand.He qualified as a chartered accountant in 1981.

He left the profession to join the Barlow Rand group in 1987 where he held various financial positions until the early 90's, when he moved to the Tiger Oats group as general manager of Beacon Sweets, Transvaal. He then held a number of operational MD positions in the Group before being appointed, CEO of Tiger Agri and Poultry Group (currently Astral Foods Ltd).

In August as part of a takeover engineered by Brait, he joined the OTK group (Afgri Ltd) as deputy MD, in October 2002. He was appointed Group Managing Director, a position he held till he resigned in July 2008.

After that he joined the CBH Ltd group as CEO where he served until June 2013.

Following this, he moved to London where he worked in the market risk department at Credit Suisse.

He joined Genesis Capital Partners in May 2008 and is responsible for management of the private equity portfolio companies.

Greg served articles at PricewaterhouseCoopers from January 1995 to December 1997 and qualified as a chartered accountant in December 1997, before starting his own private equity business in 1998 which invested across a diverse range of industries and during which period he was appointed as CEO of McCarthy Bank Limited.

Between 2005 and 2013, he was CEO and President of Tau Capital Corp., a mining and resources business that founded, developed, managed and raised in excess of $300m for a number of major mining projects, including CIC Energy Corp. (which he founded and was President of), AfriOre Limited and Talon Metals Corp. (in respect of which he remains on the board of directors).

In 2013, after exiting from the mining sector, Greg formed Innovo Capital (Pty) Ltd to again pursue private equity opportunities as well as new business opportunities and in October 2014, Greg entered into a partnership with the Genesis Capital Group to form Genesis Innovo Capital (Pty) Ltd.

Hugh Joined Genesis Capital Partners in October 2014 from Sasfin Bank, a specialist multi-line South African banking and financial services business focused on corporate, commercial and individual clients. Hugh was part of the Sasfin Capital team responsible for private equity, corporate finance and property equity transactions and deal origination. Previously as head of private client business development Hugh was responsible for building a team focused on developing the wealth division across portfolio management and stock-broking, asset management, financial planning and money market. He also initiated the expansion and build-out of new products within the private client segment.

Prior to joining Sasfin, Hugh was with Investec Private Bank within the corporate money market team, and previously within the high income banking team, with a focus on structuring and advising on financing of property and business acquisitions, primarily to private clients and their associated entities.

Hugh has a Bachelor of Commerce in Economics, and an Honours in Economics both from the University of Cape town.
